Studies now show the coffee many not be a cause of Acid Reflux like was once thought. A new study from Europoe is showing that staying away from coffee has no direct effect on occurance or severity of Acid Reflux.
The study participants who were between the age of 20-61 had mild reflux and some didn't suffer from reflux. None of the participants showed any significant affects on esophageal activity, with the only exception being when the participants stomach was empty. What the study did show is that meals induced far more symptoms of reflux than the coffee did.
Now there is are previous studies taht so indicate taht large amounts of coffe did trigger reflux. And it even induced it in people that are not chronic reflux sufferes. So although the jury is still out on whether or not coffee triggers reflux, some doctors here in the US seem to indicate that ultimately the problem is the caffeine in coffee and the ultimate culprit. One things doctors do agree on in this is the fact that a reduction in coffee will be better for your over all health.
