Herbal Remedies have a long history. Herbal Remedies were used to bring a body back in balance. Holistic medicine or natural medicine long prescrived to the Four Humors of Medicine.
In the early days of medicine there were thought to be four humors and from there that.s how treatment started. This system was long the practice until the study of anatomy and the body in the 16th century.
The Four humors is as follows:
Phlegm- Usually found in winter, it.s the secretion found in the lungs and in the brain. Phlegm is usually coughed up during times of infection.
Blood- This is of course the carrier of oxygen through the body. Blood was mostly assigned during the spring and to a sanguine person.
Black Bile . a function of the spleen. This usually was associated with melancholy and the fall was thought to be the predominant season of melancholy.
Yellow Bile- found in the gall bladder. This was predominant in summer and this person was usually fiery.
The four humor system was a summary that dates back to the Greeks and the system thought that you must balance these humors. If you these humors were out of balance the person was out of balance and had disease. Balance could be achieved though diet, climate, activity or remedies. You may have heard the term blood letting. This is where it derives from . If you exhibit signs that suggested you had too much blood, they would cut you and basically let some of the blood out, thus the term blood letting. This would allow the body to come back into balance.
